Report for the June 2010 Parish Council Magazine

Spring judging for the Yorkshire in Bloom competition took place on Thursday 15th April and despite the cold and overcast weather, Kippax looked a treat. As usual this didn’t happen by accident and involved a great deal of work by the Kippax in Bloom team and a small army of volunteers who supported the group in a multitude of ways.

Thank you to everybody who displayed our ‘We support Kippax in Bloom’ posters this shows the judges that we have the support of the community. Well done to our volunteer litter pickers for a thorough job and to everyone else who contributed to a very successful day, give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back.

The two judges (pictured below with some of the KIB group) appeared to enjoy their visit to Kippax and will make known their comments on our entry in the near future. The same judges will be back again on the 23rd July for the Summer judging so we will needed to continue to work hard to maintain the high standard we have set.

Since the last issue of the magazine the following projects have been completed:-
Litter and accumulated rubbish removed from un-adopted road behind the shops on the High Street..
Redesign of the planting of the raised bed and the entrance to Butt Hill Gardens.
•Bark mulch added to our display beds on Calvert Close and Station Road/ Brigshaw Lane.
•Additional features such as insect houses, bird feeders, log piles and a hedgehog ‘hotel’ have been added to the Wildlife Garden on Gibson Lane.
